Tips on Cleaning Your Carpets.

When a stain or a spill first happens, don’t immediately start scrubbing. That will push the stain down into the carpet fibers. Best to gently dab stains with a paper towel, or sponge, then do it again with paper towel, then lightly wet the area with warm water, then use the paper towel to dry, then use a cotton hand towel to dry further.

Blotting with paper towel puts a small amount of pressure on the spill, so you can soak most of the fluid it up. Rubbing causes the particles to get ground into the carpet fibers, which can lead to the staining of those carpet fibers.

It’s best to blot from the outer edge of the spillage inward toward the center, wiping outward may spread the stain further across the carpet.

Grease and oil spills are some of the hardest fluids to remove from carpeting, the solution is to use the proper paper towel product and motion. Place a few drops of grease busting dish washing up liquid, into a cup of warm water.

Place the soapy solution into a spray container and wet the greasy stain. Then blot it up with a white cloth or paper towels. If the stain is deep or a large size you will need to repeat this.

  • bucket of warm water and your preferred cleaning tool ready.
  • Vacuum the area you wish to clean to get rid of dirt and dust.
  • If using dish soap, measure the spillage size, and use the correct ratio
  • Stir it around until you see fluffy bubbles.
  • Using an old toothbrush, rag, or towel, gently scratch the stain with the warm water solution.
  • Do not soak the floor with water, just make it wet enough to scrub away the spill / stain.
  • Use fans, to dry asap, or open nearby windows to allow carpet fibers to dry.
  • Once the carpet stain / spillage is dry, vacuum the area again.

A rug or carpet runner for any areas your family walks on more often. This will protect the carpet in the long term. It’s a lot cheaper and easier to replace a rug than a floor’s worth of carpet.
